A common myth is that we can 'boost’ our immune systems. As scientists, we know that is not technically true but what we can do is support and reinforce a good, healthy immune function through the intake of the right amount of vitamins and minerals. For example, a Vitamin C deficiency may make us more susceptible to respiratory infections so while we should ensure not to become deficient, taking in extra Vitamin C will not necessarily “boost” our immune system as the body will get rid of excess anyway.

“Most of our member companies wanted to stay open, and were staying open under the assumption that they were a part of either the food sector or the health care sector,” said Steve Mister, president and CEO of the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), in an interview. “What this does is it makes it clear. So if someone from state law enforcement should show up and ask, 'Why are you open?’ they can directly point to the CISA guidance.”
Mister added, “When the first round of this memo came out, we were pretty confident that we would be included by inference … but it didn’t expressly say dietary supplements. You kind of had to read between the lines to read us into it.”

Based on the results of the study, the authors concluded that the significantly greater benefits tomato powder had on antioxidant capacity and exercise-induced peroxidation may have been brought on by a synergistic interaction between lycopene and other bioactive nutrients, rather than from lycopene in an isolated format.
